MEET THE CAST!

Hi-Fi RUSH has a fairly small (if we're not counting all of the enemies and NPCs, anyways) cast of zany characters! Here, you can learn a bit about each of them!*

*As implied, enemies and NPCs are not included because this would be a mile long if they were. I love them, too, though!

THE TEA-M

Chai waving

Chai is the player character! He's a 25-year-old college dropout. He loves music, chillaxing, pizza, and puns. He has big dreams of being a rockstar. He signs up for Project Armstrong in the hopes of it giving him the ability to achieve that dream. Of course, things are never that easy. At least he has some new friends to help him deal with what Vandelay throws at him.

808 celebrating

808 is Chai's companion and Peppermint's robot cat! During gameplay, she functions as a metronome to help the player be in-time. Outside of gameplay, she's a cute, cuddly kitty that's always there to offer moral support. If you pay attention to her during cutscenes, you'll notice how she tends to mimic Chai!

Peppermint doing finger guns

Peppermint is the lady in the chair—but she's also a capable fighter, using her trusty blasters to fire at foes from afar! Smart and fierce, she helps Chai get around Vandelay by using her knowledge of programming and tech. She's not afraid to speak her mind and call others out. She's pretty cagey about certain things...almost like she's hiding something...

Macaron giving a thumbs up

Macaron is the heavy hitter of the group, but he's a big ol' anxious softie. Using his strength, he's able to break through tough shields and walls with ease! He'd much rather spend his time tinkering and helping out in other ways, though. Despite his dislike for violence, he'll always jump into the fray to protect his friends.

CNMN waving

CNMN is a therapy robot that was built by Macaron. He's extremely blunt, but he means well. Using markers, they draw expressions on their face to communicate their feelings more clearly, as their face is incapable of emoting on its own. He offers advice and helps the gang figure out what to do next, alongside occassionally hacking.

THE BOSSES

Rekka is the head of production. She's big, she's beautiful, and she'll beat the shit outta you. She takes her job very seriously, and expects nothing less than the best. She's obsessed with getting things done, especially quickly, no matter the cost. This likely means lots of defects—though they never make it past QA, and certainly never past her. She's very intense, threatening others and making grand statements, even when having a casual conversation. She loves wrestling, and that shines through in her very showmanship-ly way of approaching confrontation.

Zanzo is the head of research and development (R&D). He's a creative genius (or so he claims), and is incredibly flamboyant. He jumps from project to project, never able to stick to one thing and always thinking of something new. A perfectionist, he forces those that work so hard to actually create the designs he comes up with do everything exactly how he wants, regardless of how they feel about it and insulting any ideas they may have. However, he changes his mind often, forcing them to bend over even farther backwards to accommodate his demands.

Korsica is the head of security. She's the newest of the bosses, only having joined the company 6 months prior to the games events. She takes her work very seriously, actively sending out tips to employees of how to keep things secure and having them reset their passwords...maybe a bit too frequently than is really necessary. She's constantly striving to prove herself to the other bosses, especially Kale, as they seem to dislike and look down on her.

Korsica looking away shyly

Mimosa is the head of marketing and the self-proclaimed 'Queen of Spin.' She always needs to be the center of attention, and will do anything to get it. She's essentially a popstar and performs all over the world to boost Vandelay's image, despite the fact that they're already the most well-known tech company. Still, she successfully argues that more budget should be pulled away from the other departments to be poured into marketing. She has a particular dislike for Korsica that the other heads don't quite seem to share.

Mimosa smirking

Roquefort is the head of finance. He's said to be a "wolf in sheep's clothing," whatever that means. He has a grudge against Zanzo for always demanding more and more money for his ridiculous projects. He cares a lot about money, and is often heard saying, "Time is money," which are both things he hates being wasted. Prior to working at Vandelay, he was retired for a while due to health conditions; before that, he was the one of the top economical advisors. Kale offered him a job as well as a new, robotic body, indebting Roquefort to him.

Roquefort yelling

Kale is the CEO. He's Roxanne's son, and he "received" his current position from her. He's a pompous prick that only wants two things: money and control, as all capitalists do. He's also incredibly lazy, and doesn't want to have to do any hard work in order to get that money and control. Yet, somehow, he still finds a way to give himself a metric ton of work to do, as he comes up with overly complicated plans to get what he wants instead of just doing things the efficient way. Truly, he is always causing his own problems.

Kale sneering

Roxanne Vandelay

Roxanne smiling

Roxanne is the founder of Vandelay Technologies, and was the CEO up until five years ago, when she apparently retired and gave the company over to her son, Kale. Afterwards, she vanished from the public eye entirely. She single-handedly built her company from the ground up, and is one of the most famous innovators and creators in the tech industry. However, she focused too much on her work. Separating her work and personal lives so much caused a rift in her family. A family that the public, and even those she worked closely and was friends with, don't know much about.
