Work Text:
Peppermint’s busy typing away at her computer. 808’s curled up in the charging bed under her desk. And Chai is on the couch, trying to sleep. The keyword there being trying.
As he turns over for the umpteenth time, letting out a huff, Peppermint looks over at him. She quirks a brow. Her gaze flicks to his prosthetic.
“You know,” she says, “you’d have a much easier time if you took your prosthetic off.”
His eyes pop open. They narrow, his brow furrowing. He blinks.
“What?”
“Your arm.”
“I know what you meant,” he snaps. “I didn’t know I could take it off.”
“Of course you can. You aren’t supposed to wear it all the time. Especially not when you’re sleeping.”
“...Oh.”
Sitting up, Chai starts fiddling with it, trying to pull it off. It doesn’t budge. He frowns.
“You can’t just yank it off like that.”
“Yeah, I kinda figured that out.”
Scowling, Peppermint turns back to her PC. Muttering to herself, she pulls up the blueprints for his prosthetic. She scans them. It doesn’t take long to find what she’s looking for.
“There’s a release button on the top of the socket. Press that, and it’ll pop right off.”
As she looks back at him, he does just that. As she said it would, it pops right off. It falls to the couch, landing with a soft thump as Chai’s whole body jolts and shudders. He blinks a few times, eyes wide.
“...You okay?”
A moment passes.
Then, he looks over at her, a smirk on his face. “Aw, you worried about me?”
Peppermint glares at him before turning away again. “Not even a little bit.”
A second passes.
Chai murmurs something to himself, lips pursing.
Picking up his arm, he looks around. His brow furrows. After a moment, he shrugs and places it on one of the side tables.
At the sound of it hitting the wooden surface, she glances over. She frowns.
“Don’t put it there. Put it under the couch.”
“What? Why?”
“To keep it safe. You’ll probably knock it off and break it like a dumbass if you put it up there.”
Scowling, he glares at her. He does move it under the couch, though.
As he lies back down to try and sleep again, Peppermint flicks the lights off. They’re left in mostly darkness, the only light left coming from her monitors and some of the other machinery.
