Work Text:
It’s a quiet morning on Vandelay Island. The sun is slowly rising over the horizon. Its soft light creeps into any and every building it can reach. Its warmth causes the residents, both robotic and human alike, to begin to stir.
It filters through the blinds of an apartment situated on one of the upper floors of the residential buildings. One of its rays falls directly over Korsica’s eyes. Her face scrunches up. After a moment, her eyes flutter open, squinting against the light. With a sigh, she starts to sit up.
The arm that had been strewn over her side slides down to her lap. Then, it moves, its hand grabbing onto her side. It starts to try and drag her backwards. Korsica chuckles as she turns to look at who it belongs to.
Peppermint murmurs something as she attempts to pull Korsica towards her. Half of her face is buried in a pillow. The other half is covered up by her hair, which is sticking up every which way.
“I need to get up, Peppermint,” Korsica says with a smile.
“Mmmno…”
“Yes.”
She makes a whining noise. She wraps her other arm around Korsica, pulling herself towards her now. Peppermint presses her face into her side. Her hair tickles her stomach. Korsica laughs softly. She puts one of her trembling hands on one of Peppermint’s arms. Then, she leans down, kissing the top of her head.
“I’m just going to go to the bathroom. I’ll be right back.”
“Hmm…” Peppermint lets go. “‘Kay.”
When Korsica gets up and leaves, Peppermint blows her hair out of her face so she can see. She grumbles when the sun gets in her eyes. Squinting against it, she reaches for Korsica’s pillow. As soon as she touches it, she yanks it close. Then, she rolls over so the light won’t bother her. Tugging the covers up a bit, she burrows into the bed and cuddles the pillow. She sighs contently.
It feels like hours have passed since Korsica got up when a gentle, shaky hand tucks her hair behind her ear. Peppermint opens her eyes. She’s met with the sight of Korsica’s chest. Her implant glows softly. A blush slowly spreads across Peppermint’s face.
Looking up to meet her eyes, she finds Korsica smiling down at her. She returns it with a sleepy grin.
“I’m gonna make brekkie,” Korsica says as she leans down to peck her on the temple.
Before she can pull away, Peppermint reaches up, grabbing the sides of her face. She pulls her down and kisses her on the nose. Then her cheeks. And her forehead. Her eyelids. Anywhere on her face that her lips can reach, finally stopping at Korsica’s own. She can’t help but smile into the last kiss.
When Peppermint pulls away, she giggles at Korsica’s face. She’s redder than her hair. Her eyes are wide. They sparkle in the gentle morning light.
“Come back to bed,” Peppermint says.
“Yeah. Okay.”
She laughs as Korsica pushes her further onto the bed, slipping into the space where she was lying. As soon as she’s settled, she grabs her pillow from Peppermint and tosses it aside. Then, she pulls her close, their foreheads bumping together. They gaze at one another.
Then, Korsica presses a kiss to Peppermint’s nose. And her cheeks. Her forehead. Her eyelids. Everywhere on her face that her lips can reach, finally stopping at Peppermint’s own. They both smile into the last one.
